To be an Internet pioneer, one must be a self-centered,
insecure individual. Dave Winer is
the master of unrestrained comments, but he is not able to accept any criticism
directed towards him. With his
innovative DaveNet emails, he created a new way for the industry to
communicate. I think this was also
the first set of spam to be sent out.
He controlled who received what information and would not allow others
to respond to the entire list. He
was also defensive when an individual asked to only be sent emails with
important information. Getting
many people to have their own blogs was a great advancement for users of the
Internet that wanted to say something anyone could read. He still had issues if
an individual would use that forum to say something contrary to what he thought
was right. He did show some
sort of maturity by not shutting down the “Winerlog” blog. The only reason Dave created the things
he did was to nurse his bruised ego from Apple. Maybe it was just pure luck that he became a pioneer. If he was not so insecure he might have
been able to do it without being so closed-minded to others comments, and being
an incredibly rude individual.
