When I was little, one thing my grandfather always told me was if I wanted to make and keep friends, there were two things I should never talk about - religion and politics. Because of the way our society is set up, being able to blog about politics actually allows people to still speak their mind and opinions to an open forum, all while still being able to preserve and protect the personal relationships that might be harmed by discussing them with someone they personally know. Blogging is an interesting way to allow people to talk about their opinions, especially on touchy subjects like politics.
