I think the idea of Net Art is very appealing conceptually. As our
society's connection with interactive media continues to mature, many
artists are really beginning to take advantage of the ability to allow
the viewer to manipulate the work of art, and move in and among it; to
explore it. This aspect of net art, unlike any other form of
entertainment or presentation, is opening up many new creative paths
for artists hoping to make a name for themselves relatively
independently. Whether the form of art be expressed as a simple
website, an interactive flash page, game, or any other number of
things, it is different than any other traditional form in that it can
be viewed at large by anyone with a computer and the web, and does not
require any burdens associated with traditional presentation avenues
such as galleries and the like.
The integration of more traditional forms such as photography, video,
graphic design, sound design, typography, all come together in this
digital medium in a way that creates an entirely new experience. When
applied skillfully, it creates a new experience not possible before
the age of the web. We as artists have found our new frontier, and
the beauty is, as our art and technology evolve, so do the boundaries
of this digital space, and new possibilities are always created. It's
like a world that we can shape from its foundations, and build upon as
much as we like. It's only limited by our creativity.
